| Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) has been used as a medicinal herb to cure insomnia since at least the time of ancient Greece and Rome. | ||
| The reaction cats have to Valerian is totally different, as valerian root contains a terpenoid chemical valerinone and Actinidine, a chemical which is attractive to felines. | ||
| The active chemical Actinidine (in valerian) is similar in nature to nepetalactone (in catnip) provoking very similar responses, so cats that may not react to catnip (only about 90% do) may enjoy Valerian. | ||
| Agatha Christie exploited the attraction of Cats to Valerian in her work Five Little Pigs (Murder in Retrospect). | ||
| Research has found that Valerian can be too aromatic for some cats, so we developed our Special KK Herbal Mix, which is used in a wide range of toys. | ||
